Learn Math Thru Comic Strips

Learn Math Through Comic Strips

“I am so excited!” my daughter said.  Wouldn’t it be grand to hear your child say this about reading and wouldn’t it be even grander to hear them say this about a MATH book? My daughter said it today because she was going to receive a new Beast Academy book.  Never heard of Beast Academy?  You have to check it out!  These books are made by Art of Problem Solving.  Beast Academy books are the books for elementary students and my daughter really enjoys reading them.  They are comic book style books, but it’s about math!  The books have been created for kids in grades 2-5.

I substituted a group of elementary aged children, and they were so excited about reading the different parts of the characters in their Beast Academy book aloud.  I had to alternate which group of kids were reading because other kids wanted their chance too!  The Beast Academy books also come with a practice book that has practice problems in it.

Assessment Quizzes to Help Figure Out Which Book To Use

For each grade, there are 8 total books, 4 Comic Strip (Guide Books) and 4 Practice Books.  Each Guide book is paired with a Practice book.  To figure out what grade level your child should begin with Art of Problem Solving has assessment quizzes:  https://beastacademy.com/resources/assessments

The cool thing about the Art of Problem Solving Beast Academy books is that they require higher level thinking for the children while making it fun.  In the practice book not only are there practice problems  but there are math games.

To make it even more fun, particularly if you have several children, you can let the children pick which characters they want to be and you all can take turns reading the stories aloud.  It’s another non-tablet activity you can enjoy with your littles.  If you’re like me, my goal is to incorporate more activities with my children that do not require us being on an electronic device.  Reading aloud the Beast Academy books make a great learning activity that allows you to spend some quality time with your children.

So if you want your kids to be excited about learning math, check out the Beast Academy books.  Art of Problem Solving also has books for higher grade students as well, starting with a Pre-Algebra book.  The comic strip style books are just for the lower grades. A part of helping your children become great little mathematicians is exposing them to problems and activities that require higher level thinking, and you will get plenty of that with the Art of Problem Solving Beast Academy books.
