Inexpensive STEM Activity: Introduce Your Kids to your STEM Friends

Are you looking for inexpensive ways to expose your kids to STEM? Try introducing your kids to  one of your STEM friends and incorporating an activity. One of the men that attends my church is a pilot. He graciously agreed to show my son his plane and even agreed to take him up for a flight. I invited some other families, and BOOM we had a field trip!

Use the Resources Around You

So my family and several other homeschoolers met the pilot church friend at a small nearby  airport.  He let the kids get in the plane and talked to them about flying. He was glad to talk to the kids as he hopes that more young people will take an interest in flying. And of course it cost us nothing to do the field trip (besides things like gas in the car, etc.) Look in your circle or a friend’s circle to see if there are any people involved in STEM careers or activities and who’d be willing to share some of their knowledge with your kids.

A couple of the homeschool Moms are even planning to take my pilot friend up on his offer to take their kids up for a flight!

Remember to try to expose your kids to different careers. And remember to look in your network for new opportunities for them.
